When we pass, what will be our story? How will it be told? The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry highlights this issue by exploring the similarities between our lives and literary works. Author Gabrielle Zevin uses literary allusions to narrate the unpredictable, sometimes heartbreaking, but extremely moving life of A.J. Fikry. The beginnings of each chapter reference a short story, carefully chosen by A.J. for Maya. At face value, the reader can see correlations between A.J.'s life and the prefaces to each chapter, but through digging deeper into the works, I'm able to further understand the allusions. Check out what I have to say about similar themes, characters, and advice between the literary works and A.J.'s life.
